Location

The villages of Steeple and Middle Aston are located in the Cherwell valley, between the City of Oxford (14.4 miles away) and Banbury (10.2 miles). The closest town is Bicester, which is 8.5 miles away to the east.

There is easy road access to both villages from the M40 and the journey takes around 15 minutes. There is also road access from the A4260 Oxford to Banbury Road, which is about five minutes away.

There is a regular bus service running between Banbury and Oxford that stops in the village. Access by rail is via either Heyford, Bicester North and Town and Oxford Parkway stations.

Directions to Steeple Aston

1) from A4260 Oxford to Banbury Road

There are three roads you can take in to Steeple Aston from the A4260. The most southerly is at the traffic lights at Hopcrofts Holt. Here, take the B4030 signposted Middleton Stoney and follow it until you reach the next set of traffic lights before the long bridge crossing the River Cherwell. Turn left here before the bridge and follow the Heyford Road up in to the village.

The middle turning, signposted Steeple Aston brings you in to the village on Southside going past the Red Lion pub and on to the village shop and the White Lion. The most northerly turning, signposted Steeple and Middle Aston comes in along Northside and takes you towards the village church.

2) from M40 northbound

Take M40 Junction 9 and turn left at roundabout onto A34 signposted Oxford and Newbury. After a mile, take the first left, signposted B430 Middleton Stoney. Follow the road round to a mini-roundabout where you turn right, still on the B430.

Keep straight for 4 miles until you reach the traffic lights in Middleton Stoney. Turn left here by the Jersey Arms on to the B4030 signposted Heyfords, Bartons, Enstone.

After 3 miles on B4030, you reach a T-junction. Turn left here, still following the B4030. A bridge takes you over the canal and railway to a set of lights where the road narrows to a single lane to cross the River Cherwell. At the end of this long bridge turn immediately right signposted Steeple Aston. This road brings you up in to the village.

3) from M40 southbound

From M40 Junction 10 take B430 to Middleton Stoney and Ardley. After three miles, turn right at the lights in Middleton Stoney (Jersey Arms pub on your right), into B4030 signed Heyfords, Bartons, and Enstone.

After 3 miles on B4030, you reach a T-junction. Turn left here, still following the B4030. A bridge takes you over the canal and railway to a set of lights where the road narrows to a single lane to cross the River Cherwell. At the end of this long bridge turn immediately right signposted Steeple Aston. This road brings you up in to the village.

Directions to Middle Aston

1) from A4260 (southbound)

Middle Aston is signposted from the A4260, but only if you are travelling south from Banbury. If you are coming north from Oxford, it is best to head first for Steeple Aston (see above) and then follow the directions in (3) below.

2) from M40 and A4260 (northbound)

First head for Steeple Aston (see above), then follow directions in (3) below.

3) from Steeple Aston

Turn down Paines Hill by the village shop. Follow the road (now named Fir Lane) straight past the church and out of the village and this will take you direct to Middle Aston.
